"Eleven years ago, after responding to an ad in the Oregonian advertising a ''bobcat hybrid' kitten for sale, BoBo joined the family. The breeder assured us that he would be just like a domestic cat, only bigger, and even sent a video of him to help us make up our mind. We did everything the breeder suggested, having him neutered and declawed, feeding him domestic cat food so he wouldn't get 'aggressive,' and getting him a huge litter box.
Guess what? BoBo became tempermental, possessive, sprayed everywhere, played too rough, was ruining our house and wasn't even a year old yet! He was out of control, and we were frantic! Desperately searching for information about 'bobcats as pets,' we found Shirley Malar, director of Wild Ones Sanctuary, in Brush Prairie, WA., who became our friend & mentor. She explained BoBo was just doing what he was born to do, what did we expect? And, geez, didn't we know breeders say anything to make a sale?
Over the next four years, Shirley gave both of us a crash course in "Wildcats 101" and helped us take that next step to rescue. We learned that breeders were selling wildcats, to other naive owners, and when they were over their heads, there was no place for the cats to go. Armed with little more than the knowledge we were taught, the hope to educate others through our mistakes, and the desire to give 'throw-away' wildcats a safe, peaceful home, WildCat Haven was born.
We've come a long way from the naive folks who first brought BoBo home over eleven years ago. It's been a true hands on education and one few people would give up their lives to do. We do it because we owe BoBo and all the other wildcats a huge debt. Either captive-born or wild, each cat should be given the respect & dignity they deserve to remain wild at heart. They will never experience true freedom, but we will keep them safe from neglect & abuse for the rest of their lives. It's the very least we can do for these incredible animals that ask for so little and deserve so much."

Today, WildCat Haven is home to over forty wildcat rescues, and is run entirely by volunteers and the founding directors. Our Board is made up of people with a strong focus and a deep love & passion for animals, along with a fierce determination to stop the abuse and cruelty that animals endure.
Our Vision
Live and promote a life where the animals we share it with are treated with respect and allowed to enjoy a natural existence in a habitat that is preserved to ensure the survival of these wonderful gifts of nature.
Our Mission The mission of WildCat Haven is threefold:
Rescue . . . those wildcats who have suffered the fate of abandonment, abuse or neglect.
Nurture . . . our rescues by providing a safe, natural habitat; the best nutritional and medical care possible; and an active, effective conditioning and enrichment program to provide for their physical and psychological well being.
Educate . . . the public about the plight of the cats, both in the wild and in captivity, through education for young people and the communities at large.
By continuously working with other sanctuaries, animal welfare agencies and the public, we are able to form strong relationships with individuals and businesses that support, and are invested in, the vision and mission of WildCat Haven.
