Cougars Arrive Safely at WildCat Haven
|
After a long and frantic race to get the enclosure put up for the two Michigan cougars, we are pleased to say they are both home here at WildCat Haven and doing very well :)

Kelly and Sonja, TWS's most dedicated volunteers, drove over 1800 miles from Minnesota to Oregon to complete the final stage of this rescue that started in Michigan back in February. While Mike and Tim worked on the finishing touches of the new enclosure, Cheryl met the weary group in Portland to escort them to WildCat Haven.

After releasing the cougars into their new area Kelly and Sonja spent the next few hours getting acquainted with the other wildcat residents and preparing for the long journey back.

Thanks to the kindness of Tammy Quist and The Wildcat Sanctuary, working together we were able to successfully rescue these incredible wildcats from the prison that they had lived in for over seven years. Instead of a dark, cramped cage in a barn as their home, they now enjoy fresh air and sunshine, walking on grass, laying under the trees and listening to the sounds of the birds flying overhead.

Hopefully one day soon we will see the sad look in both Nada's and DJ's eyes replaced with a look of peace and contentment. They ask for so little and deserve so much more. It's the reason we are so dedicated to do what we do, making a difference, one rescue at a time....................

We would like to say thanks to all the people who responded to our request to help build the new enclosure and a very special thanks to Tim Adams, who has spent both days of his weekends, since the beginning of February, working side by side with Mike to make sure that the new cougars had a safe, spacious area to call home. We couldn't have done it without him and the other wonderful volunteers!
