Bear, our oldest wildcat resident, came from a private owner who was moving to Texas and couldn’t take him. He had been defanged and declawed by his first owners, thinking it would make him more “handle-able”. Too often, breeders tell naive new owners that this type of surgery will make a wildcat a “pet”, and it just isn’t true.
Bear has lost his eyesight and relies on his best buddy, Nairobi, a caracal, to be his seeing eye cat. They spend their time napping, playing, and just hanging out together. Their special story of friendship was featured in the April, 2011 issue of National Geographic Kids Magazine.
